What is the connection the writer (Alexie) is making between his story and the American TV show? How? Why? Explain...
I noticed that one of the connections Alexie does in his story in relation to the TV show is that he discusses in a way the role that native americans play in society as well as the role of the whites towards the natives. In the TV show, the whites were clearly the ones with the more stable job and better position due to them being much more trustful than the indigenous from the whites' perspectives. Also, it was shown how the natives "tried" in a way to form part of the white's society through getting involved in their jobs for instance, versus the whites showing interest in adopting certain forms of living of the natives. Similarly, the story also touched on the idea of the indigenous being the ones with greater interest of forming part of the white community. For instance, the main character had gone to college and was said to play basketball, a typical american sport. Still, the story also referred to the idea of the natives having certain pride for being who they are, as shown through what the protagonist narrated, concept that wasn't very discussed in the TV show. For instance the main character would explain how he felt that his biggest challenge in basketball would be beating somebody with the his same origins rather than a white. Without going in further, this pride present in the natives wasn't something permanent, but rather accentuated when felt in power and under control, and diminished when felt as minority.
